Aleri is Not the Leading CEP Vendor, Sorry.

Similar to the outrageous marketing post we exposed in, Agent Logic is Not the Leading CEP Vendor, Sorry, a similar press release just came across my desk. This time the exorbitance is from Aleri, containing the inordinate statement:
“Aleri Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class complex event processing (CEP) technology, ….”
Come on guys! Get control of your marketing department!
Aleri is not the leading provider of enterprise-class CEP technology.

Without sales guys making grand claims, life would be so boring and humorless. A few years back, I was talking to a CTO of a financial software firm. We were joking around and talking about press releases. Someone mentioned an old press release that sounds quite impressive. The CTO replied he written that for the sales guys to use, and that it’s all part of the sales game. His perspective is that you have to make noise to get attention. It’s kind of like Dennis Rodman. He was a good player. If he didn’t have such a colorful life outside the court, he probably wouldn’t have gotten the higher salaries. As hollywood would say, there’s no such thing as bad press.
Hi Peter,
My thoughts are that this kind of marketing exorbitance backfires in the Web 2.0 social networking blogosphere.
Why be ridiculous when a vendor can be credible?
Yours faithfully, Tim
