Site Update: Blogrolls, Lists and Linkbacks

Posted on 02/14/09 1 Comment

Oddly enough, I received some very harsh message the other day from a blogger/vendor in the CEP/EP space who complained that I had removed their link from our site blogroll. The reason I found this odd is that the blogger with the harsh words does not even have a blogroll (on their blog) and therefore has no list of other sites available.

Our blogroll policy on this site, generally, is to add content rich sites that are kind enough to link to us in their blogroll or similar area. It is really quite a simple policy, but nothing is etched in stone.

In many cases we will add a site link to our blogroll even though the other site does not have a link back to us. However, over time, if the other site does not link back (and I can remember to check), we will delete the link from our blogroll.

I have noticed that many people and organizations link to us and publish our posts as RSS on their sites. Thank you very much. I am behind on updating our blogroll and will update soon, removing a few sites that do not link back to us and adding the many sites that do.

Vendors who want links are different than independent bloggers. If you are a vendor and want a link, you need to be a sponsor. Sponsors get links and logos! Sponsors also get their blog listed in the blogroll, of course :-)

In closing, if anyone wants to be added to our blogroll, send me an email.

    Hi Tim

I stopped having a blogroll ages ago, because I couldn’t see the point of maintaining it, and I never look at your blogroll. (Your blog would certainly be on mine if I had one, but I can hardly expect you to include my blog on your blogroll on the strength of a counter-factual.)

However, I do frequently link to your blogposts, and I am very happy when my blogposts are linked in other blogs. I think this is a much better form of cross-linking.
