A Date with the CloudFront Operations Manager

After running some tests on Amazon CloudFront globally, our team’s conclusions have landed me a date with the CloudFront Operations Manager.  In a nutshell, our test results concluded:

We were testing using CF/S3 to deliver content faster to customers in geographic regions different than our server. One would expect the downloads to be (noteworthy) faster because most people would expect users in the US to get content delivered faster than if they were getting the same file from Europe. The same is true for users in Asia.  This is a key value proposition of content delivery networks.  Unfortunately, we do not see this improvement using CF/S3 based on geography, which has always been a key attraction of standard CDNs.

Amazon’s CloudFront OM has contacted me and wants to go over our results.  Maybe we can help improve CF performance?  Stay tuned.

  1. I always enjoy learning how other people employ Amazon S3 and CloudFront. You can check out my very own tool CloudBerry Explorer that helps to manage S3 and CloudFront. It is a freeware. http://cloudberrylab.com/

  2. Hi Andy!

    Great to see you here.

Frankly speaking, I have the Firefox S3 plugin, CloudBerry, Bucket Explorer, s3cmd command line tool and more, all available on the desktop and server.

When I want to update our S3 buckets, I always click on CloudBerry. I highly recommend it to everyone!

I am planning a blog post on this topic.

    Cheers, Tim
