Drinking the Koolaid at Magmasystems
Oh, how I am laughing today. FIrst, I was rolling on the floor about online salami attacks at E-Trade and Schwab, now kindred-spirt blogger Marc Adler at Citigroup has me laughing with his recent CEP marketing hype:
You know that it’s been a good week for CEP when the Times starts covering it. - Marc
Anyway, I click on the link provided by Marc and lo-and-behold (surprise!) there is a big picture with the words “Stream Computing” across the top.

Then, curious as to why Marc said the Times was writing about CEP, I searched the entire article for “CEP” and “complex” and, lo-and-behold, nothing about CEP is remotely mentioned.
Technically, the article is correct; and I loudly applaud IBM Research for calling “stream computing” what it is, “stream computing” (like we used to in the old days before the marketing guys tried to pull the wool over our eyes). Even Big Blue (or at least Big Blue Not in Israel, LOL) knows that stream computing is NOT complex event processing. Why not the smart folks at Citi?
Well, I think I have “got it now” as there can be no other reason why smart folks would call stream computing, algo trading and order routing, “CEP.” (Well, there is the reason of big juicy steaks, fine wine, fame and fortune, LOL.) The folks at Citi named a department CEP and bought software called “CEP” and, therefore, they must call everything CEP (like the wool-over-our-eyes vendors) to justify the office space, budget and titles associated with the “CEP” moniker.
You know that it’s been a good week for CEP when the Times starts covering it???
Oh Marc. You are indeed the New Koolaid Drinking CEP Poster Child !! There is no doubt anymore! (Not that there was much doubt before, but now we are sure!)

If a sales guy is cooking up a batch of Koolaid, you know someone is gonna drink from it. It’s even better when it’s made with Splenda, the zero calorie sweetener. And like Splenda, CEP has zero calorie, won’t make you fat, so you can eat all you like at the CEP bufet.
Hi Peter!
I thought Splenda caused cancer?

Brain cancer?
“… Splenda may not penetrate the blood brain barrier as aspartame does, hence entering the brain and creating neurotoxin havoc at the brain center…”
